TO CREATE A PATHWAY TO TEACHING.. SEASIDE HIGH SENIOR ITZEL DIAZ.. CREDITS HER TEACHERS FOR WANTING TO BE A SPEECH PATHOLOGIST WORKING WITH STUDENTS.. DIAZ IS THE FUTURE.. SHES ON A PATHWAY T BECOMING A TEACHER.. TAKING COLLEGE COURSES AS PART OF A DUAL ENROLLMENT PROGRAM BETWEEN MONTEREY PENISULA COLLEGE AND MONTEREY PENINSULA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT THE COLLEGE AND HIGH SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP O WAY MPUSD IS ADDRESSING A TEACHER SHORTAGE.. IN LARGE PART DUE TO THE HIGH COST OF LIVING ON THE CENTRAL COAST. UNDER THE PROGRAM HIGH SCHOOLERS CAN GRADUATE WITH AN AA.. AND BEGIN TEACHING PRESCHOOL.. WHILE THEY CONTINUE THEIR STUDIES TO GET A DEGREE AND EVENTUALLY, A TEACHING CREDENTIAL .. THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR FOR THE PROGRAM.. 30 STUDENTS ALREADY ENROLLED THAT MEANS NEARLY 3-DOZEN HIGH SCHOOLERS WHO MIGHT SOME DAY BECOME TEACHERS AND RETURN HOME TO TEACH.. ERIN/DAN.## THE CLASSES AND BOOKS ARE PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE TO THE STUDENTS.. AND THEY DO THE COURSEWORK ON-LINE AND AT THEIR OWN PACE .
