It was following the death of her husband that Ann Wright decided to write her seventh book. “I, Ann Wright, Being of Sound Mind, And 92 Years Old” is the story of her life. Wright grew up in Gibsonville, went to college at Elon and had several jobs in Burlington. “But it’s not just about me,” Wright, who lives in Danville, Va., said. “It’s about history, too.” The 282-page book, “I have been told, is easy reading.” “I talk about being born during the Great Depression when all the mills were closed and people had such a hard time,” she said. “There were six little girls in my family and we had struggles, believe me, but yet we had fun together, too.” At one point in Wright’s life, she was a performer for a traveling medicine show. “He would make a stage out of truck and a man would play an organ and I would sing,” she said. “As a girl, I really wanted to be a dancer and a singer.” Wright then began to sing “A Good Man is Hard to Find.” “There’s a little bit about my love life, too,” she said. “I was 18 when Tom and I got married.

He was 20. I always tell young people that life isn’t always like you imagine it to be. It was a struggle to send ourselves through college, the seminary and the ministry. Tom finished the seminary and I received a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from the University of Virginia.” She taught school and sent four boys through college “and they’ve been successful,” she added. In addition to writing the book, Wright is an artist and designed the cover. She turned 93 in August, 2019, and is currently working on a romantic/historical novel. “I hope my health will hold up. If it does, I’ll continue to write more books,” she said. Books are $25 (including postage and handling) and can be purchased by contacting Ann Wright at 200 Cambridge Dr., Danville, Va. 24541 or by calling 434-822-0875.
