Home / College Guide / Shenandoah’s Ritter on becoming all-time hits leader: ‘Hasn’t hit me yet’

(WHSV) - Five years ago in 2019, Frankie Ritter debuted for the Shenandoah baseball team. His first season of college baseball was a good one. The infielder started 29 games, collecting 42 hits in 125 at bats. That’s good for a .336 batting average. Ritter would collect many more hits the next six seasons. On April 10 against Mary Washington, Ritter collected his 328th career hit, breaking the the NCAA Division III all-time record for career hits. Ritter broke the record previously held by Matt Gellotti of Southwestern in Texas. Gellotti’s record had stood since 2000. “It kind of hasn’t hit me yet,” said Ritter. “I don’t know. It’s a cool accomplishment but I don’t know what to think about it.” Ritter has played six years of college baseball, gaining an extra two years of eligibility because of the COVID-19 pandemic and because he’s pursuing a masters degree in business management. Shenandoah’s baseball team is tied for third in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference with Bridgewater and Lynchburg. The ODAC Tournament begins next week.
